Ira S. Sacks is an experienced trial lawyer who practices in the areas of commercial litigation, intellectual property, bankruptcy and corporate reorganization and antitrust. In more than 30 years of practice, Mr. Sacks has handled numerous complex litigations in the intellectual property and antirust areas, including actions for trademark, trade dress, false advertising, copyright and patent violations, as well as claims for price fixing, dealer termination, monopolization, patent misuse, unfair competition and unfair trade practices. In all areas of his litigation practice, Mr. Sacks also counsels his clients on avoiding litigation or reducing litigation risk, such as redesigning the distribution system for a marketer of luxury goods to mitigate antitrust risk. Mr. Sacks is lead counsel of record in more than 80 reported decisions. He also successfully argued Lilly v. Virginia and City of Sherrill v. Oneida Indian Nation before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Mr. Sacks has represented clients before many state and federal government agencies, including the Federal Trade Commission and U.S. Department of Justice. He has also acted as counsel to debtors, creditors committees and individual creditors in numerous Chapter 11 cases. For example, he acted as counsel to the debtors in the McCrory, Telemundo, Rickels and RVSI Chapter 11 cases and to the Official Committee of Bondholders in the Goldriver Hotel and Casino Chapter 11 case. He also represented significant creditors in the Sam Houston Race Park, Strategic Telecom and US Africa Airways cases. Mr. Sacks has developed antitrust compliance programs and intellectual property, advertising and website audits for clients, and has counseled clients on the licensing of trademarks, patents, copyrights and trade secrets.

Prior to starting the Law Offices of Ira S. Sacks LLP, Mr. Sacks was with Dreier LLP. Mr. Sacks was also a former partner at the New York law firms of Gursky & Partners, LLP; Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson; and Kaye Scholer Fierman Hays & Handler LLP. He is a member of the Bar of the State of New York and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Second, Third, Eighth, Ninth, Eleventh and Federal Circuits and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is also a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the International Trademark Association and the American Intellectual Property Law Association. Mr. Sacks received a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1974 and a B.S. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1970.
